At Tidworth a Mid Wilts fought bravely to win the Gillian Scott trophy and after a good days badminton came second to Swindon in a close ontest.
the team was Graham Long (captain, Sarah Hosking (vice captain), Sue Carr, Fiona Bradley, Sue Long, Amy Gamble, Anne-Marie Welsh, Maureen Wilcox, Hannah Pritchard, Derek Lamb, Gyles Crozier, Gareth Hembrough, Roy Ashworth, Peter Ross, Vernon Button and Josh Andrews.
The final result was Mid Wilts 22 Swindon 26, Mid Wilts 27 Salisbury 21 and Swindon beat Salisbury 35-13.
In the first round of matches Mid Wilts played Salisbury at level doubles with the men winning 6-2 in sets whilst the ladies lost 5-3 with sarah and Sue Carr registering the ladies only outright win. It was then the match against Swindon and a very different story with the men losing 5-3 with Roy and Gareth our only win whilst the ladies lost 7-1 with Maureen and Fiona picking up the only point.
In the next round pairs pair 1 played 2 and 2 played 1, 3 played 4 and 4 played 3. the men against Salisbury a 5-3 win and a 4-4 against Swindon with Derek and Gyles winning both, Roy and Gareth wining 2 sets, Graham and Peter winning 3 out of 4 sets. the ladies lost 503 to Salisbury and drew 4-4 with swindon.
the target in the mixed was to win everything to ensure we won the trophy as we trailed Swindon 20-12 in sets and were beating Salisbury 18-14.
In the mixed 2 wins for first pair Derek and Sarah, 3 sets from Graham and Sue Long, Hannah and Roy and Pete and Amy and the other pairs picking up odd sets it was not enough to ensure total victory.
Mid Wilts cam second after a fine display and all the players had a great time at Tidworth.
