Restricted Championships Report (& photos)  Date  Monday September 27th 2010  Assocation  National The Restricted Championships took place at the Christie Miller Sports Centre on Sunday September 26th. With 53 entries, this was the largest entry for several years. There were 22 entries in the Mens singles, 15 pairs in both the Mens and Mixed doubles but only 7 entries in the Ladies singles and 9 pairs in the Ladies doubles. The events were played on a knock out basis with a plate event for first match losers except in the Ladies singles which was played on a round robin basis in two groups. It was pleasing to see so many young players taking part and performing well against more experienced players. The holders in each event retained their titles. In the Mens singles, Ben Caldwell won for the sixth consecutive year beating Sam Barber in the final. In the eight sets he played Ben only dropped 48 points. Lisa Turner won the Ladies singles for the fourth year in a row beating Katie Allaway in a 2 set final. The Mens doubles saw Ben Caldwell and Simon Woodhouse retain their title in a repeat of last year’s final when they beat Gary Davies and Sean Locke in 2 close games. Veronique Manook and Julie Russell won the ladies doubles for the eighth time in all and 4th time in succession when they beat Jo Ferris and Lisa Turner in 3 close sets. The Mixed doubles saw Sean Locke and Julie Russell win for the third consecutive year when they beat Haydn Dibble and Heather McCune in straight sets.
